A world-class expression of Nemea's noble Agiorgitiko — a harmony of refined oak and deep, vibrant dark fruits.
Tasting Notes
■ Appearance: Deep, opaque ruby red with dark purple reflections.
■ Aroma: A very stylish and vivid bouquet layered with ripe blackberries, elegantly integrated French oak, and distinctive mineral nuances.
■ Palate: Dense, juicy tannins create a velvety smooth texture with concentrated fruit. Refreshing cherry notes and an underlying minerality lead to a world-class, very long finish that continues to evolve in the glass.
To fully unlock the potential of this wine, we recommend decanting it 30 minutes before serving.
The Story
"Hercules' Blood" and a Modern Greek Wine Landmark
Known as "Hercules' Blood," Agiorgitiko is one of Greece's oldest and most esteemed red wine grape varieties. It is celebrated for its deep color, velvety tannins, and complex flavors of dark cherry and sweet spices.
Crafted by Yiannis Paraskevopoulos of Gaia Wines, this flagship estate wine from the high-altitude Koutsi region of Nemea represents the pinnacle of modern Greek winemaking. Grapes are hand-picked into 20kg crates and undergo cold extraction. Subsequently, the wine is aged for 12-14 months in French oak barriques (from the Nevers and Allier forests). To preserve its raw and authentic essence, it is bottled directly from the barrels without filtration.
Food Pairing
Rich and flavorful dishes are best suited for this powerful, well-structured, and elegant red wine.
- ■ Roasted Venison or Wild Boar: The wine's dense tannins and blackberry notes perfectly cut through the rich, earthy flavors of game meats.
- ■ Grilled Spiced Red Meats: The subtle oak spice and juicy fruit harmonize beautifully with peppery, Mediterranean herbs and charred flavors.
- ■ Aged Hard Cheeses: Cheeses with salinity and complexity, such as Kefalotyri or aged Pecorino, perfectly complement the rich finish of the Agiorgitiko.
Serving Temperature: 16℃〜18℃ (Decanting 30 minutes prior is recommended)
Vineyard & Terroir
Concentration and Minerality from Calcareous Soil
In Nemea, Koutsi region, 20-year-old vines cultivated on steep slopes with marl and calcareous soils benefit from excellent drainage and a cool microclimate. This terroir naturally limits yields to 45hl/ha, producing concentrated grapes with an exceptionally structured acidity and sharp minerality.
"This is a monumental Agiorgitiko that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the world's great full-bodied red wines. Yiannis's skill in expressing pure, dense fruit without losing the grape's inherent elegance is truly remarkable. It's a definitive bottle for special dinners, a must-add to your wine cellar."
