The Story

Natural Wine Champion from the Danube Delta
La Sapata is a fully organic winery located in Romania's breathtaking Danube Delta, founded by passionate Italian winemakers Roberto di Filippo and Roberto Pieroni. With a deep commitment to ethical and natural farming, including cultivating vineyards with draft horses, they produce vibrant and soulful wines that capture the pure terroir of this ancient wine-producing region. Roberto di Filippo is affectionately known by local journalists as "the oenologist who whispers to horses" due to his unwavering dedication to biodynamic farming and his promotion of social and environmental sustainability in the region.

Babeasca Neagra is an ancient indigenous Romanian grape variety with a history dating back to the 14th century. It is loved for its natural resistance to spring frosts and for producing wines characterized by vibrant acidity, moderate alcohol content, and incredibly fresh red fruit flavors.

The grapes are carefully hand-harvested from organic vineyards, then fermented with natural yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, undergoing skin maceration for approximately 10-14 days. Afterward, the wine is aged entirely in stainless steel tanks to perfectly preserve the purity and freshness of the fruit.
