A exquisite balance of fresh fruit and vivid minerality that reflects the rich terroir of the Danube. Through winemaking methods that thoroughly prevent oxidation, the ultimate purity of the grape is sealed in the glass.
The Story
Founded in 1450. Croatia's oldest winery, with tradition and prestige.
Iločki Podrumi is the oldest and most prestigious winery in Croatia, established in 1450. This legendary winery, which has been bottling its own wines since the 1700s, long before Bordeaux or Burgundy, is famous for presenting 11,000 bottles of wine for Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1954, and remains on the British Royal Family's wine list today.
The "Graševina" grape used is Croatia's signature white grape, known for its refreshing acidity and its ability to beautifully express the terroir. Grapes are 100% hand-picked from low-yield vines, and undergo a short, cold maceration before crushing. During fermentation in stainless steel tanks, dry ice and nitrogen gas are used to completely prevent oxidation, preserving the ultimate freshness and pure taste of the grape.
Food Pairing
This Graševina, with its rich texture and subtly spicy, mineral finish, is extremely versatile and food-friendly.
- ■ Salt-grilled river fish or pan-fried white fish: The wine's vibrant acidity and pure minerality act like natural lemon, enhancing the umami of the fish.
- ■ Herb-roasted chicken or sautéed pork: The wine's rich texture and subtle spicy notes beautifully harmonize with the juicy fat of white meats and the aroma of herbs.
- ■ Paprika stew or seafood stir-fry: A traditional local pairing. The wine's fresh fruitiness maintains a perfect balance with the mild spiciness and deep flavors of paprika dishes, and the rich umami of seafood.
Serving temperature: 10℃〜12℃ (Enjoy at this temperature to bring out its inherent richness)
Vineyard & Terroir
Western slopes of Fruška Gora (Ilok) - Miracle of Own-Rooted Vines
Located on a gentle plateau overlooking the Danube River, at an elevation of 153 to 200m. The soil is rich "Chernozem Loess (thick black humus soil over calcium carbonate)" mixed with river alluvium. Thanks to unique geological and climatic conditions, the vines here escaped the global phylloxera epidemic of the 19th century. Even today, these ungrafted, "own-rooted (franc de pied)" vines are deeply rooted in a harsh, non-irrigated continental climate with intense summer heat (over 40℃) and severe winter cold (-10℃), producing grapes of extraordinary vitality.
"To taste a wine made from ungrafted, own-rooted vines is to taste history in its purest form. This Graševina offers an astonishing balance of fresh fruit and vivid minerality, providing value far beyond its price point. It's an absolute must-have staple for any dinner table."
