8,000 years of tradition in a bottle. The rare Kisi varietal from the Kakheti region reveals wild elegance and a deep amber soul.
Located in the naturally abundant Akhmeta micro-zone of Georgia's Kakheti region, Akhmeta Wine House is a winery specializing in natural winemaking. Upholding biodiversity and ancient Qvevri winemaking methods, they produce uncompromising, small-batch wines that purely reflect the raw beauty and rich history of the terroir.
Tasting Notes
■ Appearance: An impressive amber color with a golden hue and a beautiful, natural haziness.
■ Aroma: An enchanting bouquet of dried apricot, white spring flowers, and Darjeeling tea, interwoven with nuances of sweet baking spices and almond.
■ Palate: A beautiful structure with firm, dry tannins and deep layers of umami. Soft stone fruit flavors harmonize with crisp acidity, leading to a complex, mineral-driven finish reminiscent of brandy.
To fully bring out its complex umami and tannins, it is recommended to serve slightly chilled at 10℃〜12℃.
The Story
The Rare Kisi Varietal and the Art of Qvevri Winemaking
Kisi is a rare white grape varietal indigenous to the Kakheti region. Historically on the brink of extinction, its ability to produce highly structured, complex amber wines through skin contact and its expressive floral aromatics have now earned it high praise from natural wine enthusiasts.
The grapes are hand-harvested and hand-selected. Only wild yeasts are used for fermentation, which takes place in traditional Georgian clay amphorae, "Qvevri," buried deep underground. After extended maceration (skin contact) for up to 6 months with skins, seeds, and stems (chacha), the wine is bottled unfiltered. Sulfite additions are minimized to the extreme (below 10 mg/L).
Food Pairing
With its structured tannins, crisp acidity, and deep umami, this amber wine is surprisingly versatile and pairs well with flavorful and textured dishes.
- ■ Herb-Roasted Chicken – The wine's structured tannins and dry finish beautifully cut through the savory richness and fat of roasted chicken.
- ■ Sushi and Sashimi (Soy Sauce Based) – The wine's prominent umami and Darjeeling tea notes perfectly complement the deep umami of soy sauce and fresh seafood.
- ■ Aged Goat Cheese and Walnuts – The wine's nuances of dried apricot and almond resonate with the nutty, earthy flavors of the cheese, creating a luxurious textural pairing.
Serving Temperature: 10℃〜12℃ (Enjoy its true richness at this temperature range.)
Vineyard & Terroir
Akhmeta Micro-zone (Kakheti Region)
Located at an altitude of 500-550 meters, this micro-zone, a rare area where three rivers (Irt, Alazani, and Orvilo) converge, boasts a unique climate with mild winters and summers. Its carbonate limestone and volcanic tuff soils impart unmistakable mineral tension and vibrant acidity to the grapes.
"This Kisi blew me away with its wild energy and incredible grip! The tannins are serious, and the layers of dried apricot and Darjeeling tea make this an absolute 'umami bomb.' If you want to experience the true, unfiltered soul of Georgian natural winemaking, this bottle is what your table needs."
