Discover the golden soul of Kartli: a vibrant Qvevri-aged amber wine, bursting with wild botanicals and ancient history.
Nestled in the historic Kartli region, Alapiani's Marani stands as a testament to Georgia's pure and unwavering passion for natural winemaking. They craft extremely limited-production micro-cuvées by hand in traditional underground clay vessels, bringing forth "living wines" of profound purity and striking rustic elegance.
Tasting Notes
■ Appearance: A brilliant golden amber with a beautiful, natural, unfiltered cloudiness.
■ Aroma: An expressive, herbaceous aroma with notes of dried apricot, wild mountain herbs, and beeswax, with a touch of roasted walnuts.
■ Palate: A beautiful texture with gentle, tea-like tannins. Crisp acidity highlights flavors of ripe yellow plum and warm spices, leading to a deep, savory, earthy finish.
To best bring out the gentle tannins and complex herbal umami derived from the Qvevri, serve slightly chilled at 10℃-12℃.
The Story
The wild energy of "Gori Green"
Goruli Mtsvane, meaning "Gori Green," is a late-ripening white grape variety indigenous to central Georgia. It is highly prized for its vibrant aromas and its unique ability to produce fresh, crisp, yet well-structured and complex amber wines through skin contact.
The grapes are organically cultivated and hand-harvested. Fermentation occurs naturally with wild yeasts in traditional Qvevri, buried deep underground and lined with beeswax. After approximately six months of maceration with skins, seeds, and stems, the wine is bottled completely unfiltered. Sulfite additions are either minimized or completely absent.
Food Pairing
With its firm tannic structure and savory depth, this amber wine has the power to pair perfectly with rich, complex, and earthy dishes.
- ■ Herb-Roasted Chicken – The wine's wild botanical notes harmonize beautifully with rosemary and thyme, while its bright acidity cuts through the rich pan juices.
- ■ Aged Sheep's Milk Cheese (Manchego or Pecorino) – The tea-like tannins and nutty nuances resonate perfectly with the firm, crystalline texture of the cheese.
- ■ Rich Mushroom and Walnut Stew – The traditional Georgian flavor profile of walnuts and earth matches perfectly with the deep, savory, Qvevri-aged character of the wine.
Serving Temperature: 10℃-12℃ (Enjoy at this temperature to bring out its full richness)
Vineyard & Terroir
Kaspi Municipality, Kartli Region
The Kartli region is located at a higher elevation than Eastern Georgia, resulting in a cooler, milder climate. This cool environment allows the grapes to ripen slowly, maintaining sharp, vibrant acidity while reflecting the unique character of the region's mineral-rich soil directly into the glass.
"Kartli Goruli Mtsvane possesses a unique wild, herbaceous energy that sets it apart from the heavier Kakhetian amber wines. Alapiani's 2021 vintage has astonishing grip and a depth of umami that truly overwhelmed me. If you're exploring the truly unfiltered side of Georgian Qvevri wines, this is an absolute must-add to your collection."
