■ Appearance: Deep, captivating ruby red.
■ Nose: A complex and alluring bouquet of ripe black cherry, dark plum, roasted coffee, and vanilla, elevated by elegant, smoky cedar and spice notes.
■ Palate: A well-structured, powerful, full-bodied wine. Rich dark fruit flavors seamlessly blend with hints of dark chocolate and oak, culminating in a smooth, velvety texture with beautifully integrated tannins and a long, memorable finish.
To preserve maximum flavor, filtration has been kept to a minimum, and harmless natural sediment may appear. For the best experience, we strongly recommend decanting before serving.
The Story
The Indigenous Blatina Variety and Winemaking Philosophy
Blatina is a captivating and rare indigenous variety from Herzegovina, unique for its botanical characteristic of having only female flowers, making it unable to self-pollinate. This necessitates planting it alongside compatible pollinating varieties such as Trnjak and Alicante Bouschet in the vineyard. This results in a remarkably rich, deeply colored, and expressive historical and natural field blend.
The meticulously hand-picked grapes are cooled, destemmed, and cold-soaked before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. After natural malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in the finest oak barriques. Filtration is kept to a minimum to preserve the wine's powerful original character.
Food Pairing
With its 15% alcohol volume, full body, and smooth tannins, this Blatina Barrique is an excellent accompaniment to rich and flavorful meat dishes:
- ■ Grilled Lamb Chops with Rosemary: The smoky, herbaceous char of the lamb beautifully echoes the wine's cedar and spice notes, while the richness of the meat softens the powerful tannins.
- ■ Aged Hard Cheese (Pecorino or aged Cheddar): The intense, salty bite of aged cheese brings out the deep black cherry and velvety chocolate nuances hidden in the wine.
- ■ Slow-Cooked Beef Stew: The wine's dark fruit and savory notes seamlessly blend with the tender beef and well-cooked root vegetables.
Serving Temperature: 16℃〜18℃ (Enjoy its true richness at this temperature range)
Vineyard & Terroir
The Terroir of Ljubuški (Herzegovina)
Located at an elevation of 140 meters, the grapes are cultivated in an impressive soil that combines typical karst limestone with vibrant "terra rossa" (red earth). The vineyards face southwest, basking in the intense Mediterranean sun of summer while balanced by mild winters. This harsh terroir forces the vine roots deep into the rocky ground, producing highly concentrated, mineral-rich grapes that achieve a powerful 15% alcohol content while remaining beautifully balanced.
"Blatina is truly a marvel of nature, and this oak-aged Barrique from Nuić is nothing short of superb. Its velvety richness, deep black cherry aromas, and warm vanilla undertones make it one of the most comforting and powerful red wines we offer. If you appreciate a bold, well-structured wine, this is definitely one to try." — Dejan (Owner & Balkan Wine Specialist)
