Lasina (Ante Sladić) 2019
A rare and elegant masterpiece known as the "Pinot Noir of Dalmatia," capturing the delicate soul of the Croatian coastline.
The Ante Sladić Family Winery, located in the village of Plastovo in Croatia's Dalmatian region, is deeply passionate about preserving local indigenous grape varieties. From high-altitude limestone vineyards where Mediterranean and continental climates intersect, they craft honest, terroir-driven wines using natural yeasts and a low-intervention approach.
Tasting Notes
■ Appearance: A beautifully transparent, bright, and brilliant ruby red.
■ Aroma: An elegant and captivating bouquet of red fruits like tart cherry and raspberry, layered with delicate violet florals, subtle spices, and a hint of earthy undertones.
■ Palate: Very smooth and elegant on the palate. The gentle red fruit flavors are perfectly balanced with crisp, refreshing acidity. Silky, fine-grained tannins lead to a long finish, guided by floral aromas and prominent minerality.
With an alcohol content of 13%, it possesses a surprising delicacy and floral elegance, challenging the perception of heavy red wines often found in Dalmatia. Enjoy it slightly chilled at 14℃-16℃ to best appreciate its beautiful acidity and red fruit aromas.
The Story
Rare Indigenous Variety and Uncompromising Natural Winemaking
Lasina is a very rare indigenous variety from the Dalmatian region. Known for being difficult to cultivate and producing low yields, the effort is richly rewarded with highly aromatic and high-quality fruit. Its elegance, bright acidity, and light body have earned it the honorable nickname "Pinot Noir of Dalmatia."
Grapes are carefully hand-picked from family-owned vineyards. After crushing, they undergo natural fermentation using only wild yeasts. The wine is then aged in neutral Slavonian oak barrels to enhance complexity without masking the delicate fruit flavors, and bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its pure essence.
Food Pairing
Its delicate, silky tannins, bright acidity, and subtle umami create a surprisingly perfect and elegant marriage with traditional Japanese cuisine:
- ■ Seared Bonito (Katsuo no Tataki): The wine's vibrant acidity and earthy notes perfectly complement the rich, smoky umami of the seared fish.
- ■ Ume Shiso Chicken Rolls (Ume Shiso Maki): Lasina's delicate floral aromas and tart cherry flavors beautifully embrace the tartness and herbal profile of ume (plum) and shiso.
- ■ Seared Marinated Mackerel (Aburi Shime Saba): The wine's elegant structure and clean minerality cut through the rich, savory fat of the mackerel, creating a superb balance.
Serving Temperature: 14℃〜16℃ (Enjoy at this temperature to bring out its full richness)
Vineyard & Terroir
The Magical Terroir of Plastovo (Dalmatia)
The vineyards are located at an altitude of 250 meters on pure limestone soil. This particular microclimate is truly magical; it's a unique place where the warm Mediterranean sun intersects with the cool continental climate. This contrast allows the grapes to fully ripen while retaining the vibrant, crisp acidity and deep minerality that define the elegant structure of this wine.
"Having worked in Slavonian vineyards since I was 13, I thought I knew Croatian terroir inside and out, but this Dalmatian Lasina still surprises me. It possesses an incredible delicacy and floral elegance that defy the region's image of heavy red wines. This is precisely the kind of rare, authentic wine I dreamed of sharing when I opened my wine shop, Piti.
