FAKIN MALVAZIJA 2023
Crafted by a young genius from Istria, Croatia,
this is a masterpiece white wine, a frequent "Decanter Gold Award" winner.
"Fakin" is one of the most acclaimed wineries in the world, located in Motovun, a beautiful hilltop town on the Istrian Peninsula.
Their flagship "Malvazija" is a wine that truly deserves to be called
"golden drops," with its rich aroma like acacia flowers and a harmonious crisp minerality.

3. Tasting Notes
Aroma
Upon pouring into the glass, an explosive fresh aroma of acacia flowers, white peach, and grapefruit spreads. As the temperature rises, subtle nuances of honey and herbs also emerge.
Taste
The palate is very crisp and fresh. However, it's not just light. The salinity (mineral) derived from the Istrian soil firmly supports its structure, and a pleasant, slightly bitter almond-like finish lingers.
Serving Temperature
10℃〜12℃ (Do not chill too much; enjoy it with its aroma prominent)

Manager's Tasting Notes
"The ability of a frequent Decanter Gold Award winner is no joke. I am overwhelmed by the gorgeous acacia aroma overflowing from the glass, but when I drink it, the crisp, beautiful minerality and salinity unique to Istria spread, creating a wonderful balance. This is a versatile white wine that perfectly enhances any meal, from Japanese dishes like tempura and sushi to seafood with garlic!"
4. Winemaking & 5. Variety
■Grape Variety: Malvazija Istarska 100%
An indigenous grape variety cultivated in the Istrian Peninsula for several hundred years. It is characterized by its floral aroma and sea-like minerality, and is beloved as a "wine for seafood."
■Winemaking: Stainless Steel Tanks Only
All grapes are hand-picked. To preserve the freshness of the grapes to the maximum, oak barrels are not used, and fermentation and aging (3-4 months on lees) are carried out in stainless steel tanks. This directly expresses the characteristics of the terroir.

6. Terroir: Motovun
The vineyard is located in the inland part of the Istrian Peninsula, Motovun.
This area is also a world-famous "white truffle production region."
The soil is a mixed soil of limestone and clay (marl), called "Terra Bianca (white soil)."
This white soil gives the wine sharp acidity and rich minerality,
creating the potential for long-term aging.

8. Awards & Accolades
Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA)
Producer Marko Fakin, in his 30s, has won numerous international competitions.
He is gaining worldwide attention as the "young master of Istria."
9. Perfect Pairing
The Istrian Peninsula is also known as a "gastronomic paradise." This versatile white wine pairs well with both seafood and mountain delicacies.
It pairs surprisingly well with tempura eaten with salt, and white fish sushi. The wine's minerals play the role of "salt" and "dashi."
The wine's acidity enhances the umami of clams and mussels.
The fresh acidity refreshes the richness of chicken skin and negima (chicken and scallion skewers, salted).
