【Natural Wine】A pioneer of natural orange wines passed down to the next generation. An amber wine meticulously aged in large barrels with skin contact for up to 6 months.
Tasting Notes
■ Appearance: Deep amber color. A beautiful, luminous yet落ち着いた hue that speaks of long skin contact and years of aging.
■ Aroma: Concentrated fruit aromas of dried apricot, dried orange peel, and pear compote. Gradually, complex and mystical aromas of nuts, honey, dried leaves, oriental spices and herbs, and a hint of tobacco layer themselves.
■ Taste: The palate is surprisingly smooth, with a velvety texture. The rich tannins (astringency) derived from long skin contact are pleasant, forming a firm structure. Fresh acidity and fruitiness, mellowed with age, elegantly harmonize, leading to an extremely long, mineral-rich finish.
At Roxanich, not bound by conventional thinking, grape juice, then wine, is macerated with the skins in large wooden barrels for an extended period of up to six months. Afterwards, it is transferred to large, old wooden tanks known as "Jaras," where it undergoes aging for up to 10 years until it reaches perfection. This "minimal intervention" winemaking is precisely what makes Roxanich a pioneer in natural orange wines.
The Story
Honest natural winemaking passed from father to daughter, to the next generation
"Roxanich Lara 1/6" is a special wine named after Lara, the eldest daughter of owner and winemaker, Mr. Mladen.
Growing up as a daughter, Lara Roxanich became interested in wine from a young age and decided to major in Mediterranean agriculture and viticulture at university. Following in her father's footsteps, she strongly desires to inherit the traditional natural winemaking techniques of the Roxanich family and pass them on to the next generation.
Born from a unique interpretation of the Istrian traditional grape variety "Malvasia Istriana," this wine is passionately crafted with the aim of "raising awareness of honest and natural winemaking" among those who drink it.
Food Pairing
With its firm tannins and complexity, this wine resonates with a wide range of dishes:
- ■ Roasted pork or duck (with orange sauce or herbs)
- ■ Aged hard cheeses, or bloomy rind and blue cheeses
- ■ Game dishes, or risotto generously made with mushrooms
- ■ Spicy Moroccan or ethnic cuisine
Serving temperature: 12 - 14℃ (Do not overchill; tasting it at a slightly higher temperature will allow its hidden complex aromas and rich umami to spread luxuriously. We also recommend using a larger glass or decanter.)
Vineyard & Terroir
Winds of the Adriatic Sea and the vibrant Terra Rossa
The grapes grow in the gently rolling hills near Motovun, on the Istrian Peninsula in western Croatia. This area has a highly favorable climate for viticulture, where warm winds from the Adriatic Sea and cool air from inland converge.
The vivid red "Terra Rossa" soil, rich in iron, imparts abundant minerals to the vines, and gives the wine a firm acidity, a uniquely powerful structure, and complexity.
"From the moment it's poured into the glass, you'll be captivated by the overwhelming aromas that unfold after long aging. Don't overchill it, and take your time to savor its dramatic changes."
