【Natural Wine】Croatian orange wine with multifaceted flavors, made from 7 grape varieties aged for up to 9 years.
Tasting Notes
■ Appearance: A deep, brilliant, dense amber-orange color.
■ Aroma: Rich fruit aromas of orange peel, quince, and dried apricot. Gradually, complex nuances of oriental spices reminiscent of cumin and saffron, honey, toasted nuts, and chamomile intertwine.
■ Taste: A substantial and very rich mouthfeel. The concentrated fruitiness of dried raisins, along with a rounded, gentle acidity drawn out by long, luxurious maceration, and firm tannins that delightfully tighten the whole, create a beautiful structure. The finish lingers with a subtle bitterness and rich aroma.
While preserving the inherent fruitiness of the grapes, the wine is macerated with skins and seeds for up to 90 days, extracting rich, flavorful secondary aromas. It is then carefully aged in wooden barrels, large casks, and Jara (a type of wooden barrel) for up to 9 years. This orange wine, bottled without any fining or stabilization, is filled with the passion of its maker.
The Story
A natural art that lets you experience the Istrian terroir with all your senses
Roxanich is a natural winery founded by Mladen Rožanić in the western part of Croatia's Istrian Peninsula, his hometown, after 15 years of training in wine regions around the world. It adheres to minimal intervention.
This natural wine is made from grapes grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, following biodynamic principles. Bottling is also done unfiltered according to the lunar cycle (waning moon). "Zara 5/6" is a rich and exotic orange wine, the result of the winemaker's dedication, which changes moment by moment in the glass as the night deepens, continuing to evolve wonderfully.
Food Pairing
Perfect pairings for this wine:
- ■ Chicken tenderloin yakitori (fluffy grilled, with sudachi and salt)
- ■ Spicy oriental dishes (e.g., chili shrimp, tandoori chicken)
- ■ Roasted pork or chicken seasoned with herbs and spices
- ■ Aged hard cheeses and nuts
Serving temperature: 12 - 14℃ (Enjoying it at a slightly higher temperature than white wine will highlight its rich aromas and full tannins)
Vineyard & Terroir
Adriatic Sea breezes and red soil "Terra Rossa"
The grapes are grown in the Bačva district of the Istrian Peninsula in northwestern Croatia. Located about 7 kilometers inland from the Adriatic Sea, this region greatly benefits from the Mediterranean climate.
The soil is a highly distinctive "Terra Rossa" (red soil), rich in iron oxides and calcium carbonate. This special terroir imparts concentrated, rich fruit flavors, high acidity, and a somewhat enchanting, pleasant minerality and soft phenolics (astringency) to the grapes.
"It's both nostalgic and overwhelming with exotic spices and honey aromas. Take your time and enjoy the complex evolution of flavors as it opens up in the glass."
